The College of Education sponsored the 2nd Embracing Change Conference on March 1, 2019 and is planning the 3rd Embracing Change Conference on Friday, March 27, 2020

At the last year's conference, 22 breakout and roundtable sessions were attended by 260 professionals from across the region.  Topics focused on 5 tracks -  Educational Leadership P-12; Counseling Education; Communication Disorders; Doctoral Studies; and Equity and Inclusion.  In response to the question on the final evaluation, “would you attend this conference again”, 100% of the respondents answered “yes”.

An inspiring keynote speech was delivered by Dr. Deneese Jones, Chief Academic Officer at Trinity University in San Antonio, Texas. The Lively Letters Program trainers conducted an outstanding day long phonemic awareness workshop for students and faculty in the Communication Disorders specialization.

Invited guest presenters included: award winning Kentucky Educational Television producer, Renee Shaw;  Roger Cleveland, Director of the Center for Research on the Eradication of Educational Disparities at Kentucky State University; Molly McKinney, EKU Associate Professor in Public Health, CHS; Liliana Gomez de Coss, Director of the EKU Office of Multicultural Student Affairs; and Michael Ballard, EKU Assistant Professor, American Sign Language and Interpreter Education.

Sheila Pressley, Dean of EKU College of Health Sciences and Tom Otieno, Dean of EKU College of Science, provided a highly informative presentation, “Challenges and Opportunities of Stem-H Equity and Inclusion Recruitment and Retention”.

The conference was planned and organized by the faculty and staff of the COE Department of Educational Leadership, Counselor Education and Communication Disorders in collaboration with Model Lab School.

The 3rd Annual Embracing Change Conference is scheduled for Friday, March 27, 2020. For more information about session proposals and registration: https://encompass.eku.edu/embracingchange/
